Chapter 88: The messenger
Emilia’s POV
My heart hammered frantically against my ribs as I attempted to control my breathing.
Ivana put her hands on my shoulders and held them there. But Emilia, you're not helpless. You've already gone a long way. For this, you have been selected.
I took a deep breath. Selected. I have been plagued by that word ever since I first encountered the Moon Goddess. selected to take the lead. Selected for combat. Selected to live.
But what if I didn't succeed?
What if my vision was a prophecy rather than merely a warning?
I hardly raised my voice above a whisper. "I'm afraid, Ivana."
Her eyes grew softer. "Good," she stated plainly. Fear helps us stay alert. It serves as a reminder of our losses. However, fear is only helpful when it is under control, not the other way around.
I balled my fists up.
I wanted to get over my fear.
I have to strengthen myself.
As though reading my mind, Ivana looked at me for a time and then nodded. "Then let's exert more effort."
