Chapter 40: How Could I Have Such a Foolish Mother
Gunter had been observing Stefan's expression for a long time.
"You seem to be in a good mood?"
The smile on Stefan's face faded slightly. Holding the flower stem between his fingers, he replied calmly, "Do I?"
The more Gunter looked at Stefan, the more he felt something was off.
Perhaps he saw a girl he fancied at the competition earlier?
If so, that would be wonderful.
Gunter had been a friend of Stefan's father and often looked after Stefan at his father's request. But some things could be asked with restraint, without treating him as his own son.
Gunter's eyes softened: "Your parents would be so proud to see you now."
Stefan was silent for a moment, then smiled faintly: "Yes."
Gunter looked at the young man before him, hiding his sorrow, and sighed inwardly, "It's my fault. If I hadn't introduced you to the Norman family, you wouldn't have been engaged."
"At the very least, I could have had Felice look after you." Gunter's face showed rare guilt.
