Chapter 19: Decker's Scheme
Irene's expression remained calm as she looked at Madame Kashi.
Madame Kashi seemed to lack energy, her eyes, which had weathered many storms over the years, were filled with sadness and a hint of reluctance.
Irene buried her head in the blanket on Madame Kashi's lap.
Forget it.
As long as Madame Kashi had the determination, that was enough. As for the rest, Irene would give her enough time to adapt and to care less about that nauseating parental affection.
Irene helped Madame Kashi lie down, comforting her softly, "It's okay. I'll study hard and ignore them."
Madame Kashi nodded appreciatively, closing her eyes while holding Irene's hand.
Irene sat by the bed, watching Madame Kashi drift into sleep before she stood up.
She gently closed the door.
Emma stood not far from the door, looking worried.
"Grandma is asleep."
Irene looked at the yard as a gust of wind blew through, making the leaves rustle. Countless tiny leaves were blown off, swirling in the air with the wind.
