"Audrey, if Megan had just waited a little longer before bringing up the divorce or if she had just waited until I got home and had dinner with me, I would have laid out everything I experienced over the years.
"I would have pushed her up to the top and made her the happiest woman in the world. Whatever she wanted, I would have given it to her. But she couldn't even spare me that time!"
Nolan shook his head with a bitter smile. It was hard to tell if he was feeling sorry for himself or for Megan.
Audrey watched Nolan, noticing that he was in a bad mood. It was clear that he wouldn't be happy even if he got back at Megan. After all, the feelings he had invested in their relationship were genuine.
"Nolan, don't be sad. It's Megan's loss for missing out on you. She will regret it, and she's going to be miserable about it."
Nolan nodded with a smile. "It doesn't matter. Whatever Megan is planning doesn't matter, either. Let's go, Audrey. I'll take you home."
