FIVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO
Rose came to with a start. She sat up, bracing her hands on…hard floor? Ground?
Her eyes darted around. It was dark. So dark she could barely see what was right in front of her. Silent, too. She strained her ears to pick up any sound but got nothing.
Wherever she was, it had to be the middle of the night.
She was parched, the back of her head was throbbing in pain, and her side hurt. She tried to gather some strength to get up, feel around, figure out where she was. But her body was too weak.
She collapsed onto the floor, her eyes shutting. As she went under again, she thought she heard something. Screams? She blanked out before she could figure it out.
When she woke up again, it was daytime, and light streaked in through a window high in the wall. The first thing that appeared in her sight were bars. A cell. She was in a cell. One look around told her exactly where she was. Blood Moon’s dungeon.
As everything that happened the day before flashed through her mind
