FIVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO
Later, as Rose lay in his arms with her head tucked beneath his chin, he asked, “When are you going back?”
She bit her bottom lip. It was the one thing she didn’t want to think about in that moment. But they couldn’t just ignore it.
Her departure was fast approaching. She had already been at her sister’s pack for about a month. At most, she could only stay for a couple more weeks.
“Soon,” she replied. A sad smile curving her lips, she added, “Tired of me already?”
Andrew hooked his thumb under her chin and lifted her face to him. “I could never.” He caressed his thumb along her jaw, to the edge of her bottom lip. “I wish I could always hold you like this.”
She searched his eyes earnestly. “Do you mean that?”
She would rather not hear such words from him if he was just saying them for the sake of it.
“Of course.”
“Me too,” she whispered. Her heart beat painfully as she confessed, “I don’t want to go back.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of her forehead and tightened
