Zoe was about to hurl.
Stacey, she wasn't Miranda's daughter, not by blood, not by anything.
That woman, spinning lies like truth just to get a hold of Stacey.
The reporters Zoe had quietly called in showed up right on time.
"Are you accusing us?" Zoe sneered frostily. "Our school is top-notch. Our students fit right in with the rest of the world. Stacey was fine until she met you, and then she changed. She's scared of you. What the heck did you do to scare her like that?"
Miranda was bristling with fury, "I didn't do anything! I've been with her for less than a week!"
She realized her mistake when she said it, but it was too late to take it back.
"Country...home," Stacey sobbed, tears streaming down her face.
She looked plain, but there was no denying the innocent look in her eyes. It was enough to tug at people's heartstrings.
Most people walking past the school gates were old folks out for a walk or picking up groceries. They couldn't help but feel sorry for Stacey.
