"Pearl only has one student, Phoenix, who's not even here in town. This 'student ' must be a fake," she brushed off.
Conor's gaze hardened, his eyes piercing. "True or not, she's the one who poisoned our grandma," he said, his voice barely more than a breath.
Shrugging, Stacey said, "Okay, I'll believe you."
Conor smiled politely, the perfect gentleman. "You can go."
And so, Stacey left.
Alone now, Conor watched Stacey leave, a twinge of something dark in his eyes.

After leaving the Burton house, Stacey headed to a tea house
A place she'd bought a while back but kept under wraps.
And no one knew she was the boss.
Settling into a seat, a waiter came up to her, smiling warmly, "What tea can I get you?"
"The best one," Stacey said, her voice chilly.
"Sure, just a sec," the waiter replied, leaving to make her drink.
Checking her watch, Stacey saw it was nearly ten.
Brysen walked in, looking like he hadn't slept, bags under his eyes.
