Conor's voice was quiet, his tone serious. "I get it," he said, his gaze piercing.
Stacey frowned at him.
His eyes were cold, distant. "I know what it's like to be called a monster. To be hated by your own family and stoned by your own people. I know it all too well."
Stacey's anger flared up. "Who called you a monster?" she demanded. "You're so good-looking. You're like a god! Anyone who calls you a monster must be blind! Tell me who they are. I'll tear their head off and use it as a soccer ball!"
Conor just stared at her, speechless.
The atmosphere had been so serious.
But Stacey's eyes were bright, full of fire.
He couldn't help but smile. "I appreciate it. It makes me feel better."
"We're in this together now, aren't we? Of course, I care about you," Stacey replied, "Don't worry, I've got your back. I'll make sure you're untouchable."
His eyes were deep, unreadable. "And since you say grandma wasn't poisoned by snake venom, I trust you."
