Chapter 9: Crone and Witches

The crone lead the way to her cottage and I follow her meekly, unsure if what the future held. I was weary from my awkward sleeping position, and the tiny pebbles pierced my feet since I was barefooted.
When we passed by a clear river the crone told me to wash my face, anf I couldn’t be more grateful for the short break. I felt like I would pass out anytime soon.
“You can drink some water and wash your face here. We are almost at the cottage.” She informed me and walked a few feet away, picking herbs with every step she took.
Immediately, I sat by the mouth of the river, and using both hands, I scooped water and drank, quenching my thirst. The sun was now shining brightly in the sky, and I felt hot and dehydrated.
Sighing, I scooped water again and unintentionally found myself staring at my reflection in the clear water. I looked so haggard and tattered. No one would believe how much my rank had fallen in less than a week. However, I had to be strong. Only then would I gain
