His eyes met mine, a flicker of something dark passing through them.
“Luck, I suppose. Or something else entirely.”
“I want to see it,” I said. “I want to go on deck and watch the mist. Can you point me in the direction?”
Avario followed me, or rather, he allowed me to grab him by the arm and pull him with me. By the time we reached the deck, I heard Connor's voice.
“What the bloody hell are the both of you doing here?” he asked, his voice cutting through the fog as a gust of wind cleared most of it away from the deck. It revealed Connor standing at the bow of the ship, arms crossed behind his back, glaring at us.
“I wanted him to show me the island. At least point in the direction of where it was,” I replied.
Connor shook his head, then glanced at Avario before chuckling. “Did you tell her about the island? About the mist? It shows you things, but it was once corrupted. It became a den, a place where many died. I sailed close to the island once, hoping to esca
