Avantica marched into the clinic, grabbing the hand of the pale-skinned albino who had been bawling her eyes out for a few moments. “Stay outside,” She said as she opened the curtain and blocked Luca from entering. Lying down on the small bed was a baby, fussing gently. Then suddenly, he stopped crying, his breathing overly shallow.
“He's malnourished,” Avantica said, reaching for the baby’s tiny, too-thin arm.
“Why did you find him?” Avantica raised her eyes to the albino and gently lifted the boy from the crib.
“I found him in the desert,” the young woman said, her voice shaking as she looked up at Avantica. “He was… he was in a scorpion’s nest. I think they stung him… several times. But he’s alive. Barely.”
