Without waiting for a response, Baron turned on his heel and stalked toward his Jeep parked a little way off. He swung himself into the front seat with a fluid motion, his powerful frame tense and coiled like a spring ready to snap. Bane followed suit, his serpent-like gaze scouring the nearest area for Talia while Baron’s nose worked overtime, picking up any strange scent or anything linked to her. He hoped for even a sliver of hope—a sound of his baby crying or at least her scent—but he found nothing.
The two of them rode out in silence, the only sound the rhythmic rolling of the tires and the hum of the engine as it took them through the desert sands. The heat was oppressive, the air thick with the weight of the sun’s glare, but Baron paid it no mind. His senses were honed in on one thing and one thing only—finding Talia.
