“Eat it, Luna. Nothing will happen to you,” Bane said as he lifted a sliver of snake meat and popped it into his mouth, chewing with a contented expression that made my stomach churn.
“No, thank you,” I replied, my head shaking vehemently. The thought of snake meat was enough to make me gag. My children, however, had different ideas. They eyed the meat on their plates with far too much enthusiasm, scarfing it down with reckless abandon.
“If Mama doesn’t want hers, I’ll have it,” Bailon growled at his sister, showing a glimmer of sharp teeth that strangely filled me with pride. His wolf was already coming through, despite his tender age.
“Bailon,” I called his name, infusing enough force into it to get his attention. The growling stopped instantly, though Valerie herself seemed far too bold, sticking her tongue out at her brother before reaching for my platter of snake meat.
