“Interesting,” Ariel said when I walked up to her hut. “They told me a sister was coming to visit. I thought they were mad. I sort of laughed out loud, thinking there was no way I had a sister. But they showed me that you were simply a sister in act. Come,” she said, gesturing for me to enter.
Inside her small cottage, which nearly mirrored mine in arrangement, she handed me a cup of tea. “Morning Glory,” I said when I stepped on it.
“Yes,” she said. “Finally, someone who recognizes the true worth of these things.”
Melissandra couldn’t help but stare directly into the fire. “Do you have a hard time leaving it sometimes?” she asked the old witch.
“Sometimes,” Ariel said. “But otherwise, I find myself having grown so used to this life of solitude. It’s good sometimes, but not all the time. I forget how to relate to others. Sometimes I think the spirits are just my imagination, but lo and behold, the gods tell me they’re not.”
