“I don’t know anything about Across the Sea.” Stefano responded.
I shook my head and clicked my tongue.
“Nothing?” I asked, looking at him with a slight grin.
“Nothing,” he replied.
“Have you been reading?” I asked.
“Customs,” he said. “I don’t want to get on anybody’s nerves while I’m here. I’d rather not.”
I folded my hands over the book. “Yesterday I had a lesson. Tomorrow I have another one. I feel like my brain is constantly being pumped with information, and I need something to help clear it all out. But since you’re talking about customs,” I said, smiling at him, “what do you know about the priestesses?”
He shook his head. “I know you don’t talk about the priestesses. You don’t talk about the gods. You don’t talk about them, at least.”
“Why?” I asked, a bit confused.
“Because here, they believe in listening to the voice of the gods at least once before doing something major. If they want to go to war, they must consult. If they want to have me as their Luna,
