LUKE'S POV
"I'm leaving, Harriet," I said firmly, turning my back on her once more. "Don't expect me to save you."
As I began to walk away, a sudden cry of pain made me freeze in my tracks. Against my better judgment, I glanced over my shoulder, my eyes falling on Harriet as she clutched her stomach, blood seeping through her fingers.
"Luke..." she gasped, her face contorting in agony. "Please...help me..."
I cursed under my breath, my instincts warring with the bitterness and resentment that had settled in my heart. As much as I despised Harriet, I couldn't ignore someone in such desperate need of help.
"Damn it, Harriet," I growled, rushing to her side. "You're a real piece of work, you know that?"
She let out a pained whimper as I knelt beside her, examining the wound. The bleeding was severe, and I knew she needed medical attention immediately.
"We have to get you to a hospital," I said, my voice softening despite my frustration.
