Chapter 144: Flattery
Anna nodded obediently. "Sorry, Mom. Don’t be mad. I promise I won’t call her that again."
The auction continued, and finally, Elena spotted the perfect gift for Phoenix’s mother.
“A hundred-year-old ginseng root, perfectly preserved. This is a rare gem, and I’m sure those in the know can appreciate its value. The starting price is $10 million,” Eddie announced.
“That’s a fine specimen,” Malachi remarked, impressed. “I wonder who will take it home tonight.”
Dan’s mother turned to him. “Your grandfather’s birthday is coming up. You should try to get this.”
“Alright,” Dan agreed and raised his paddle.
“$11 million.”
“$15 million!”
“$20 million!”
“$25 million!”
Before Dan could lower his paddle, the bidding for the ginseng had already skyrocketed to $50 million.
“Damn, why is everyone bidding?” Dan grumbled and raised his paddle again. “$50 million!”
“One hundred million,” Elena calmly called out.
The entire room went silent.
Dan froze mid-motion, staring at Elena in shock.
