Claude repeated, "I never told Jacob about our wedding." His eyes narrowed slightly as he explained, "The person who could predict Jacob's death so precisely, the one who made you show the document—who do you think it is?"
"What do you mean?"
"You should know," he replied, a faint smile on his lips. "He knows exactly how to deal with me."
Olivia's face appeared calm, but her breathing was uneven, betraying her true feelings. She felt as if a giant net was closing in on her.
Suddenly, she let out a strange laugh, a sound so out-of-place that no one could quite make sense of it.
"He would never let the fishing village case just end like this. You know well the grudges between us. Jacob's death is nothing compared to his family's interests and his sister's death." Claude watched her face quietly.
It took a moment before Olivia responded. "I understand."
That was all she could say. The air felt heavy, almost suffocating. She knew she couldn't stay any longer.
