Chapter 152: Civil Disguise
A sharp gust of wind tore through the room, carrying a stinging spray of rain with it. Zendedari instinctively pushed Caitlin behind him. "They’re coming," he said, his voice a low, ominous rumble.
Caitlin stumbled back, groping for the wall to steady herself. She barely registered the cold stone under her palms, her mind whirling with the implications of Zendedari’s words. These people—if she could even call them that—were something else entirely. They were like him, like her father had been. A part of her, the scientist part, was captivated, eager to understand and dissect their nature. But there was no time for detached study. She wasn’t merely an observer in some controlled environment. She was trapped in the middle of it.
She grasped Zendedari’s wrist, her fingers trembling despite her efforts to remain calm. "Can’t we just leave? Go somewhere far away from all of this? From them?"
