Walter flinched as the scalding coffee spilled over his wrist, his hand jerking in shock. “Are you insane, Uncle Ray?” he snapped, shaking off the hot liquid. “Last time we were here, the Vulture nearly killed us. He told us to get out of the mountains or he’d finish the job. He’s a true vampire, and I doubt he’s fond of us now. He’s always reminded me of that damn rat Jacob.”
Ray, ever calm, responded with a smirk. “You killed the woman. He warned you not to, and so did I. But you couldn’t resist, could you? And don’t mention Jacob again. He’s the one who cost us our place in the society.”
Walter’s frustration boiled over, and he hurled the coffee mug against the wall. “We’ve been chasing this woman for two years, Uncle Ray!
