Zendedari stood still, surveying his surroundings with an intensity that made his black eyes gleam with an odd glow.
*I know this place. Something happened here long ago that I should remember,* he communicated, his voice a rough whisper that vibrated through their shared bond. His hand instinctively lifted to his throat, tracing the faint scar curving across his jugular—a scar that should never have been there.
*Only a mortal wound can leave a mark like this.*
He murmured the words to himself, his fingers still lingering over the scar, as if the touch alone could bring back the memories buried deep in his mind. Caitlin, standing beside him, remained perfectly still, her heart aching for him. She could feel his confusion, his frustration, and the agony that surged beneath the surface of his thoughts. Without a word, she placed her hand on his forehead, her touch tender, her green eyes full of concern.
