"How are you doing, bestie?" Akila chatted with Layla over their video call.
"I'm good. Yourself?"
"Mmn. Everything is not as fun without you and Derek here though."
"Don't tease me." Layla laughed.
"Where is my god-son?"
"He's playing in his baby stroller."
"Derek isn't a troublemaker. Why will you dump him in there?"
"I didn't dump him in there. I only need to catch my breath. He doesn't cry, but he's hyperactive."
Akila chortled. "What do you expect? He's a male child. You're lucky his hyperactivity is not in crying."
Layla mimicked a face in gratitude and potential exasperation if that had been the case with Derek. "As in? Nurturing a child isn't easy at all. You have a better hang of this than I do. The first year could have been tougher for me if you hadn't been there to help. I might have lost my mind."
"You underestimate yourself, a lot, young woman," Akila spoke in a deep baritone.
Layla laughed. "That suits you."
Akila frowned. "Don't wish me bad."
