Chapter Sixty Six: A Complicated Arrangement
Canaan joined Layla for dinner that night.
"I thought this was my quarter."
"It is. But we have matters to discuss, and there is no other time to go over them but now."
Layla's mouth parted subtly. "Okay."
"Eat." Canaan gestured to her.
He looked at Derek where he played in his baby wheels.
"Has he eaten?"
"He won't be playing this heartily if he hasn't."
Canaan smiled.
Layla furrowed her brows. He was making weird feelings worm their way through her heart.
He was smiling at Derek; she knew that, but her heart still pulsed at the sight of it.
She had had a peaceful lunch, but dinner wouldn't turn out that way.
Canaan's presence made Layla feel uncomfortable. She shoveled her food into her mouth, not tasting them.
"Are there more rules to go over?"
"I've had the contract you requested drafted out. Either parties will have to sign, and our agreement will be finalized."
