Chapter Fifty Six: The Alpha's Mate's Dilemma
Layla stood in the bathroom, staring blankly.
Her encounter with Nora had left her shaken to the core.
"Mama," Derek called her name, looking up at her face.
"I'm here, baby. I'm here." Layla stroked the back of his head. "You will be safe. Mama will keep you safe."
Nora's threat rang deep in her head. She wasn't a fool to underestimate threats.
Nora's threat was no measly threat; it was the threat of a jealous woman.
And there was nothing more scary than a woman fighting to retain her man's affection.
She would do all it took to ensure he stays with her. Those whom she took out with her plan would matter less to her, and Layla didn't want her and her son to fall victims to her ploy.
She moved out of the bathroom, careful as she walked lest she was struck across the head.
She wouldn't put it beyond Nora to attempt to kill her there. She would get away with it.
Layla had the feeling that Nora was the type to kill and get away with murder.
