Chapter Thirty Five: Provision, Comfort, and Relief
Akila halted her car, pulling the key out of the ignition. She took a moment to catch her breath, leaning her head against the headrest.
It was drizzling outside; she hadn't taken her umbrella along with her to the wedding.
"I should have listened to the weather forecast channel this morning," she murmured, holding one side of the steering wheel.
Everything had been in a frenzy though. She was one of the bridesmaids, but it turned out she wouldn't be participating in the event after all.
"Lily will be so mad." Akila caught her lip between her teeth.
She glanced out the window to check if the rain had stopped, but it continued drizzling.
Observing that there was nothing she could do–Layla was probably hungry, and it was a long ride from the pack house to her house–she got down from the car.
She ducked her head, raising her hands above her head to shield her hair, and ran toward the entrance of her house.
She removed her purse strapped against one armpit and fished out the keys.
