Chapter Thirty Three: A Hasty Escape
Layla held Derek to her chest while Akila drove at full speed over the highway.
Akila glanced intermittently at the overhead mirror to be sure they weren't being followed by Alpha Canaan's men.
Questions raced in Layla's head, her heart pounding in fear.
She chided herself now over keeping the wallet for herself.
Back then, she had thought of it as a souvenir for herself. Something to remind her that she had spent the night with her mate rather than a nameless stranger–although he didn't recognize her.
And when Derek had happened, she had been glad to keep it.
He would know whom his father was, even though he didn't want them.
He wasn't even aware of his existence, but Derek deserved to know whom his father was.
When Layla thought clearly of it, she had indeed stolen from him.
She had no entitlement to his wallet.
If she hadn't taken it with her that day, it would have been reported missing, and it would have been returned to its owner by then.
