I stood at the balcony of my bedroom letting the night’s gentle wind breeze past me while I peered at the moon with crossed arms. I couldn’t stop replaying the events of today’s meeting earlier, I wondered if I made the right choice. My thoughts soon tousled as Charlize came to join me by my side.
“Hey,” she casually said in a soft voice that almost sounded like a whisper. My gaze returned to the moon as I sighed.
“I heard your mother has awoken,” she commented.
I nodded. “Gertrude told me this evening. It wasn’t long after my father passed his judgment.”
“And I also heard you haven’t gone to see her yet,” she added.
“Is that why you came here?”
She wriggled her head. “I’m leaving, tomorrow after the execution.”
I inhaled sharply unable to hide the displeasure that printed on my face.
“Why? I mean…it feels so sudden.”
