CHAPTER SEVEN - WARNINGS WRAPPED IN JEALOUSY
Aria's mind raced as she left the library, the stolen documents burning a hole in her bag. She nearly collided with Lucas, who was waiting outside.
"Aria," he said, his golden eyes searching her face. "Are you okay? You ran off earlier."
She averted her gaze. "I'm fine. Just had something urgent to take care of."
Lucas stepped closer. "About the dance... I understand if you don't want to go."
Aria hesitated. "Lucas, I-"
"Please," he interrupted, taking her trembling hands in his. "Just give me a straight answer. Will you go to the dance with me?"
His touch sent electricity through her body. Aria's breath caught in her throat. She knew she should say no, but the words wouldn't come.
"I... yes," she whispered, surprising herself. "I'll go with you."
Lucas's face lit up with a brilliant smile. He squeezed her hands gently. "Thank you, Aria. You won't regret it."
As he walked away, Aria leaned against the wall, her heart pounding. What had she just done?
