CHAPTER EIGHTEEN - SHADOWS REACH FOR HER THROAT
Christine's fingers closed around Aria's throat, cutting off her air supply. Aria's violet eyes widened in shock as she struggled to breathe.
"Mother, stop!" Lucas roared, his voice hoarse with pain and desperation.
Christine's grip tightened. "This Red Crescent bitch has bewitched you, Lucas. Can't you see?"
Aria clawed at Christine's hands, her face turning red. Lucas summoned every ounce of strength he had left and pushed himself between them, forcing his mother to release her hold.
"I said stop," Lucas growled, his golden eyes flashing dangerously.
Christine took a step back, surprise etched on her face. "Lucas, you can't possibly be defending her."
Lucas stood tall despite his injuries, positioning himself protectively in front of Aria. "That's exactly what I'm doing, Mother. And I won't let you hurt her."
Aria gasped for air, rubbing her throat. "Lucas, you shouldn't..."
He silenced her with a look. "I'm done hiding how I feel, Aria. You're my mate, and I'll stand by you
