CHAPTER 25 - Walking Voice

I walked into the dorm room, my mind still reeling from the placement test, and found Sally packing a suitcase. Frowning, I gestured toward her luggage. "Are you leaving school? Take me with you, please!"
Sally laughed, but I could see the traces of tears on her cheeks. She shook her head. "No, I go home most weekends to see my dad. He likes me at home, and I love seeing him… even if he is pretty strict."
"Strict how?" I asked, sitting on the edge of my bed.
"Well," Sally sighed, folding a sweater, "he doesn't let me go to parties, didn't want me in a co-ed dorm, and he’s never wanted me to date."
I raised an eyebrow. "Is that why Liam doesn't know you like him?"
Sally's cheeks flushed. She dropped the sweater. With trembling fingers, she refolded it, avoiding my gaze.
I was just about to apologize when she said quietly, "I've loved Liam for as long as I can remember."
"Why haven't you told him?"
