CHAPTER 108 - The White Wolf

The clearing was crowded with spectators, all murmuring and whispering. If I were in my human form, the hair on the back of my neck would stand up with all of the nervous energy.
I knew what was about to happen. Things were about to get ugly.
And fast.
But what could I do to stop it?
Especially when Brittany, the big brown wolf, stepped forward confidently.
"Let's settle this once and for all, Lyra," she growled, in a mind-link, her amber eyes locked onto mine. "White Wolf or not, you are no better than me."
I squared my shoulders. "Have it your way, Brittany," I barked back. "I don't want to hurt you, but if I must, I will."
The crowd hushed as we circled each other, our growls echoing through the forest. Brittany lunged first, her powerful jaws snapping at my neck. I managed to dodge, but her teeth grazed my shoulder, leaving behind a deep gash.
I yelped in pain and anger, and surprise. How did that happen when even as a human, I had beaten two she-wolves in the dirt
