“Faster,” Dante shouted. “If you were chased by a real vampire you’d be drained dry by now.”
I panted heavily as I tried to outrun the dummy chasing after me. The thing was suspended in the air by strings and powered by some contraption that made it chase me like the real deal.
Well, close to the real deal.
Dante was right. I’d be long dead if it was a real vampire.
“I can’t go any faster than this,” I bit out, beginning to slow my pace. “This is impossible.”
“Bullshit,” Dante barked. “You’re not even trying. Move!”
I slowed even more, dragging my feet beneath me and turned to see the dummy flying toward me. I cursed, ducking down just in time before it hit me in the head. “Whose stupid idea was this anyway? What am I supposed to learn from this?”
“Reflexes,” he snorted. “Something you’re direly lacking from.”
I huffed. “I’m not like you.”
“No, you’re supposed to be stronger,” he retorted. “Which makes this even more depressing. Put in more effort, for fuck sakes.”
