Five years later…
My fingers’ grip tightened around the handle of the suitcase as I peered at Dante’s car pulling to a stop outside of the airport.
Not a moment later the door flew open and I could hear Azzy cry out from inside, “Xaria, no! Come back here!”
I couldn’t help but smile as the little girl ran as fast as her tiny legs would carry her toward me. The moment she reached me, her arms fell around my legs and she hugged me with all her strength.
“Hey, little pup,” I laughed, bending down to return her hug. “I don’t remember you being so big. You were a little baby the last time I saw you.”
“No, I wasn’t, silly,” she replied with a giggle, pulling away to peer up to me “You talked to me through Skype only yesterday.”
“True,” I smiled. “But I meant in person. Not through some electronic device.”
Her cute little face scrunched up in confusion, but she didn’t press any further. Just then Azzy and Dante walked up to me.
