Chapter 164: A Friend Of The King
Lucian ducked behind a massive ice pillar, holding his breath as the avalanche gained momentum. The ground trembled under his feet, the cavern echoing with the deafening roar. He peeked around the pillar just as the avalanche reached the frozen lake.
With a sickening crack, the ice gave way, sending a wave of icy water surging towards the base of the mountain. Screams ripped through the air as the Duke's archers, caught completely off guard, were swept away by the torrent.
Lucian's heart hammered in his chest, a mixture of relief and horror washing over him. The diversion had worked,creating a temporary window of opportunity. But the cost, although necessary, stung.
He turned to the soldiers, who were staring at the devastation below with wide eyes. "That's enough," he said, his voice hoarse. "Now, back to the battlefield. We have a fortress to conquer."
