CHAPTER 207: THE SUSPICION
Evans glanced at Susan, who shot him a warning look. “Juliet, just drop it,” he said, his voice strained.
Juliet crossed her arms, her resolve hardening. “No, I won’t. If you’re doing something that could harm the family or the company, I have a right to know.”
Susan stepped closer, her voice low and dangerous. “You’re playing with fire, Juliet. Walk away before you get burned.”
Juliet met her gaze head-on. “I’m not afraid of you, Susan. And I’m not afraid of finding out the truth.”
Susan’s eyes blazed with anger. “You should be.”
Evans finally looked up, his face a mask of worry. “Juliet, we’re asking you nicely. Please, just go.”
Juliet could see the turmoil in his eyes, and for a moment, she hesitated. But the feeling that something was very wrong kept her grounded. “I’m not going anywhere until I know what’s going on.”
Susan rolled her eyes and turned her back on Juliet. “Fine. Stay and make a fool of yourself. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
With that, Susan stormed out
