"You don’t need to worry about me," Xina said coolly, her eyes meeting Stefan’s with an unwavering confidence. "Gary’s not some sixty-year-old man, if that’s what you’re thinking." She wasn’t being petty; she meant every word. “He’s a lot more attractive and capable than you could ever imagine.” There was a slight pause before she added with a smirk, "And he doesn’t have a wife, children, mistresses, or anything of the sort."
"You don’t know that for sure," Stefan shot back, his voice filled with frustration. For years, he’d been the one Xina praised, the one she admired, and now the tables had turned. His ego couldn’t handle her talking about another man with such admiration.
Xina’s smirk deepened. "Don’t worry," she replied. "I’ve learned." Her words cut through the room like a blade, leaving Stefan silent, his pride bruised.
