CHAPTER SIXTY ONE – A LOT ON MY MIND
From across the room, Elena watched the couple with narrowed eyes. Something about their body language seemed off to her. One moment they were perfectly in sync, the next there was a tension, a hesitation. It didn't match the story of the whirlwind romance they'd been selling to the world.
As the song ended, Elena made her way over to the couple. "Karina!" she called, plastering on a bright smile. "Can I borrow you for a moment? Girl talk, you know."
Karina looked startled, but nodded. "Of course. Miguel, would you mind?"
Miguel's smile was perfectly polite, but Elena didn't miss the flash of annoyance in his eyes. "Not at all. I'll get us some champagne."
As soon as Miguel was out of earshot, Elena pulled Karina into a quiet corner. "Okay, spill. What's really going on with you two?"
Karina's eyes widened. "What do you mean? Everything's fine."
