CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN – THE FAMILY’S APPROVAL
As the two women hugged, George turned to Miguel, his expression still stern but softened around the edges.
"I hope you understand, Mr. Eladio, that we'll be watching you very closely," he said. "If you hurt our daughter or grandchild in any way..."
Miguel nodded solemnly. "I understand, sir. And I promise you, I will do everything in my power to be the man they both deserve."
The tension in the room gradually began to dissipate. As Elena fussed over Karina, peppering her with questions about the pregnancy, George reluctantly shook Miguel's hand.
"Welcome to the family, I suppose," he grumbled. "God help us all."
Miguel couldn't help but chuckle. "Thank you, sir. I promise I'll do my best to live up to your expectations."
As the evening wore on, the conversation gradually became less strained. Elena insisted on seeing the baby books and catalogs they had so hastily hidden, while George grilled Miguel on his plans for balancing work and fatherhood.
