CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN –
The next morning, Karina woke to the sound of birds chirping outside their window. For a moment, she forgot where she was, startled by the unfamiliar surroundings. Then the events of the previous night came rushing back, and she felt a flutter in her stomach as she turned to look at Miguel.
He was already awake, propped up on one elbow, watching her with a soft smile. "Good morning," he said quietly.
Karina felt herself blush under his gaze. "Good morning," she replied, suddenly feeling shy.
Miguel reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "How did you sleep? No more nightmares?"
She shook her head. "No, no more nightmares. Thank you for... for being there."
"Always," Miguel said simply.
They got ready for the day in companionable silence, stealing glances at each other as they moved around the room. As they were about to leave, Miguel caught Karina's hand, pulling her close.
"Remember," he said softly, "we're taking things slow. Out there, we're still just colleague
