CHAPTER NINETEEN – RESIGNATION
Scarlett gritted her teeth. Explaining the situation to a woman who clearly thrived on office gossip was a waste of time. She needed a different approach.
"Alright," she said, feigning understanding. "Perhaps you can point me to the person in charge? I'm sure they'll be able to help me locate the document."
The receptionist, momentarily fooled, pointed her towards a stern-looking woman with a bun at the back of her head.
This woman, who introduced herself as Ms. Lewis, listened to Scarlett's request with a skeptical frown.
"Mr. Davies didn't mention needing any documents," Ms. Lewis said curtly. "Perhaps there's been a misunderstanding."
Scarlett explained the situation again, emphasizing the urgency Henry had conveyed. Ms. Lewis, however, remained unconvinced.
"Without a specific document name or department request," she declared, her voice firm, "I cannot simply release any files. Company policy."
