Eleanor’s brow furrowed slightly. The Madam the butler referred to was undoubtedly Linet Mason, the first wife of Susan’s father and the true matriarch of the Whales family. If she wanted to see Susan, it wasn’t for anything pleasant.
She cast a glance at the two children beside her, her voice calm yet firm. “You two stay here and behave, understand?”
Leo pouted slightly but nodded, while Lilly held Eleanor’s hand for a moment before letting go. The children trusted her completely—if she chose not to take them, there must be a good reason.
With that, Eleanor turned and followed the butler out of the room.
As they walked through the long corridor, Eleanor’s voice broke the silence. “Steward, why does Madam want to see me?”
The steward hesitated, clearly reluctant to speak. After a brief pause, he sighed and replied in a hushed tone, “I’m not entirely sure… but Madam doesn’t seem to be in the best of moods… so…”
