Gordon, who'd been busy the entire day, buzzed around like a bee in Paramount Hall.
Greta reclined on the bed. She looked so frail that she was a literal skeleton covered in skin. A foul smell mixed with the scent of medicine hung thickly in the air.
"Don't bother, Gordon. It is what it is. I won't get any better.
"Every extra day I live is just another day I burden you. All I ever wanted was for you to focus on your studies and put some weight off your dad's shoulders…"
Gordon went back to her after he emptied her bedpan. A computer sat on a dilapidated desk nearby, its screen emitting a dim glow. The screen was filled with codes that he had written for a competition. Greta would still stand a chance for treatment if he won the prize money.
He remained silent. He set the bedpan down and went to wash his hands before reentering the room. He settled down in front of his computer. "Call me if you're feeling uncomfortable. You should get some rest now."
