"She went back." Mayra was extremely tired. She slipped under the sheets and buried herself underneath. "Andy, sleep early. I have school tomorrow." Anderson waited until she was sound asleep. Listening to her rhythmic breathing, he rose and turned off her bedside lamp before he left. The room was enveloped in darkness once he closed the door. Half awake, Mayra fumbled for the switch next to her bed with her eyes closed. She turned on the bedside lamp. … The next morning, a sliver of morning light shone into her room. Lisa knocked on her door. "Ms. Mayra, it's time to wake up and have breakfast. You have school today." Still feeling drowsy, Mayra glanced over at the time. It was still around five, and the sun had just risen. She managed to haul herself up, knowing that she had to go to school. Lisa entered with her uniform. "Ms. Mayra, this is your uniform.
