William didn't understand.
Nelson let out a bitter chuckle and held him close. "William, you're the child your mother and I had together. I longed for your arrival more than anything."
The woman he loved most had given him a son.
"Well then, I forgive you for not wanting me. Come on, Daddy, get up." William tugged at him and started dressing him. "Mr. Campbell cleaned you up well."
Nelson was speechless.
"I can do it myself."
"Let me help you."
William was still a child, but he could dress himself. So, he figured he could dress Nelson, too.
He pulled a black sweater over Nelson's head.
"William, I think you put this on backward." The collar felt wrong.
"Nope! I did it perfectly!"
When it was time for pants and shoes, William struggled to get them on properly. Nelson sighed. "William, try switching the other shoe around."
William gave it a try. Sure enough, it fit. He clapped his hands and praised Nelson. "You're amazing!"
