Evelyn and Langin exchanged a glance, both inwardly marveling at how perfectly timed this was. Evelyn had only mentioned wanting to attend the ball during the day, and that evening, Eugene had Langin take his place.
The more Langin thought about it, the more curious he became about what made this ball so special that both Evelyn and Eugene were so keen on it.
Evelyn, however, was a bit puzzled. From what she knew, Eugene was a low-key person who rarely attended events and would never send the playful Langin in his place. The fact that Eugene was having Langin represent him and had given him the ring while specifically instructing him to keep it a secret was even more perplexing.
Emil noticed Evelyn's hesitation and quietly reassured her, "Don't overthink it. We should get going quickly. If we arrive too late, it will be easier to get caught."
