My mother-in-law was standing outside my bedroom door. “Henry, Zena, are you asleep yet?”
Henry quickly stuffed the divorce agreement under the quilt and went to open the door. “Mom, why are you still awake at this hour?”
“I was about to go to sleep when I noticed the light in your bedroom was still on, so I wanted to check on you both.” My mother-in-law was talking to Henry at the door.
“Hi, Mom!” I removed my face mask, went to the door, and pretended to be a good wife. “Henry and I are getting ready for bed.”
As I said this, I took Henry’s arm and snuggled up to his shoulder.
Henry glanced at me calmly and didn’t speak.
“It’s getting late. Your dad will be attending the business summit in Avonopolis the day after tomorrow and decided to come over at the last minute. He has no plans to stay in a hotel, so we’ll just stay here for a few days,” my mother-in-law said to me with a smile.
My in-laws were from Calisdale, which was not far from Avonopolis.
