Valentina brought Augus to the school infirmary to treat his injuries.
Blood was on Augus's face and nose. His eyes were swollen. There was a bruise on his forehead, and several places on his body were bruised.
But to Valentina - the saintly doctor, who since childhood, had been subjected to cruel training far beyond that of ordinary people, and being shot at was an everyday occurrence - these wounds were nothing serious.
There was no need to make a special trip to the hospital.
Augus took two anti-inflammatory pills and sat quietly by the sick bed, holding a steaming cup. He sometimes seemed lost in thought, or, once in a while, he would sneak a look at Valentina and then sink deep into musing.
"Are you scared?" asked Valentina.
Augus looked up at her quickly - Valentina was standing lazily against the door frame, her arms crossed. She was different from the Valentina he had known for the past ten or so years.
He hesitated.
"Seeing me break someone's leg scared you?"
