CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-SIX THE ESCAPE
XANDER'S POV
Sitting in my room, the dim light casting long shadows on the walls, I found myself restless. Thoughts of Daphne swirled in my mind, her defiance and the pain in her eyes haunting me. I clenched my fists, trying to shake off the frustration. Just as I was about to pour myself a drink, I heard it—a distant scream, followed by the frantic pounding of footsteps.
I shot up from my chair, my heart pounding in my chest. What the hell was going on? The noise grew louder, more chaotic. I threw open the door, stepping into the dimly lit corridor. The air was thick with tension, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows.
Before I could make sense of it, a rogue came barreling down the hallway, his eyes wide with panic. "Xander!" he shouted, breathless and wild-eyed. "The prisoners... they've escaped!"
For a moment, I was frozen, disbelief washing over me. "What did you say?" I barked, my voice echoing off the stone walls.
