Chapter Fifty-Four: A Time Out
Jayden had traveled, Anna had left for an important meeting, and I was home alone for a rest. After a while, I heard the doorbell ring again. I walked over to the door and opened it. It was Evans. He had a box of pizza and a bottle of red wine.
"Hey, Evans."
I smiled for the first time since that day.
"Hey, babe."
He moved past her, dropping the box of pizza on the table.
"I brought these for a little celebration. It's been a while since we spent time together," he said.
"Yeah, I have been bored as fuck."
I took out two wine glasses from the cupboard and emptied some of them into the glass cups.
"Cheers," I said, raising the glass above her head. He sipped a bit from it and moved closer, looking directly into my eyes.
We talked with each other all evening. We talked about books, politics, and people more positively than I had ever seen him talk; it was like it was new every time. At this point, nothing mattered more than the moment that we talked. I forgot about everything and
